5 days trekking tour in the Bale Mountains

Explore the stunning scenery of the Bale Mountains National Park, located in the Oromia region in southeastern Ethiopia. This tour entails trekking from the afroalpine mountains into the Senate Plateau. During the 5 day tour, you will come across the Ethiopian wolf, Mountain nyala, giant mole rat Bale monkey among other wildlife species.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive in Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, and get a transfer to a hotel in the city for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Addis Ababa- Dinsho

After a hearty breakfast, drive to the Bale Mountains National Park, passing through Ethiopia’s Great Rift Valley.  Marvel at the spectacular mountain scenery as well as the beautiful Rift Valley lakes. Arrive at the park headquarters in Dinsho late in the afternoon. Prepare for dinner and overnight camping near park entrance.

Day 3: Geysay Valley

Leave the camp in the morning and head to Bale National park for a hiking tour that will take approximately 3-5 hours. While trekking through Geysay Valley, you will have the chance to see the Ethiopian wolves, the Mountain Nyala and Menelik’s Bushbuck. Stop by Habera Waterfall for a nice packed lunch break. In the evening, head back to camp for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Sanetti Plateau

Drive from Dinsho to Sanetti Plateau, this is one of the highest peaks within the national park, and a great place to see the endemic Ethiopian Wolf. You will also have time to visit the Crane lakes where you will enjoy viewing different species of birds before proceeding for lunch. Later in the afternoon, head to Goba for your overnight stay.

Day 5: Back to Addis Ababa

After breakfast drive back to Addis Ababa for your departure flight.

Best time to Trek Bale Mountains National Park

The best time to go for a trekking safari in Bale National Park is between October and May since it is after the rainy season.
