The 2017 edition of the Nyege Nyege Festival is going down from the September 1st to 3rd. For the third time, people from all over the world will commune for 72 hours to enjoy music at its best, right at The Source of the Nile in Jinja, Uganda. Listed below are reasons why we think you should grace this festival this year.

  • The Music

Nyege Nyege is a Luganda word meaning ‘The feeling of a sudden uncontrollable urge to move, shake or dance’. People who have been to Nyege Nyege before can attest to the fact that this festival lives up to its name. Nyege Nyege brings together a massive lineup of artistes from all over Africa, and some from Europe, each representing a unique style.

This year we have the 4 stages on which 200 artistes from 30 countries will perform. Expect spectacular performances from Eddie Grey the Jazz sensationalist, Karamoja the strictly roots reggae band, Sichangi the Rhythmist, Mose the Beat boxer, the hot sauce princess Reniss, just to name but a few! Get ready for 72 hours of non-stop music!

  • The Food

If you have ever tasted the world renowned Ugandan Rolex, this will be your best opportunity! This savory Ugandan snack is made by combining an egg omelette wrapped up in a chapati. Other than Ugandan dishes, Nyege Ngege Festival has numerous stands serving all kinds of foods at very affordable rates. Enjoy East and West African cuisines, Thai and Indian specials as well as the best of Jamaican barbeque!

You can also get alcohol onsite. Revelers have a wide disposition from which to choose from. Enjoy your favorite six pack of beer with your friends as you sway to the African beat. Don’t forget to try Uganda’s trademark drink; The Ugandan Waragi!

  • The Location

Nyege Nyege Festival has the perfect location: The Nile Discovery Beach! The beach is set adjacent to the Source of the Nile in Jinja, Uganda. The festival’s location characterised by acres of green tropical forests, has open spaces where guests can pitch up tents.

With 4 stages, the festival basically has something for everyone. With the trees, you can even set up a hammock next to the stage and enjoy the live performances. Fun tip: make sure to take a dip in the Nile to cool of from all the dancing. Trust us, it’s worth it!
